European Health Management Association

Special Interest Group "Best Practice Management in Health Care and Hospital Management: Search for Excellence"

This international special interest group (SIG) is chaired by Prof. Dr. Dr. Wilfried von Eiff and Prof. Dr. Sandra Buttigieg (University of Malta, Faculty of Medicine). This SIG is an integrated part of the European Health Management Association (EHMA) Annual Conference.

Best Practice Management is a powerful tool to leverage medical quality and patient outcome and to achieve cost containment simultaneously. The Best Practice Management SIG will show how to identify best practices, especially from other industries and the participants will learn how to transfer those into leapfrog results fostering the own hospital to an outstanding position in the community, as well as in competition to other hospitals. Aims and benefits of BPM will be reached by the professional use of BPM tools and methods. The spirit and power of generic benchmarking will be emphasized by comparing best-in-class solutions from other industries and different countries.

CKM visits EHMA in Brussels

On 29th January 2019, the CKM represented by Professor von Eiff and Ms Susanne Elze visited EHMA in Brussels. Professor von Eiff presented to the EHMA, a range of services of the CKM along with their available forms of support. In addition, organisational and detailed questions about the 35th EHMA Annual Conference (17th – 19th June 2019, Espoo, Finland) were discussed. During the Annual Conference a session about infection management will take place. This session will lead the CKM within the “Health-i-care” project, and has already been initiated by Ms Elze during her 3-month project work at the EHMA in 2018.

On the same day, an event about infection management titled "Infection prophylaxis and infection management" took place in the European Parliament. Professor von Eiff was invited by the EHMA as a speaker to speak about "Effective HAI Prevention - The Theragnostic Dilemma and the Burden of Disease". The event was organised by the European Network for Safer Healthcare (ENSH). More information about the event and the lecture by Professor von Eiff can be found here.
